New Silverware

On Saturday we went to this amazing soup and sandwich place I always go to called Atwaters. Since there was a Tuesday Morning store across the street, my mom and aunts and I went there to window shop. While I was browsing, I saw some silverware I liked. It had some weight to it, it was kind of chunky looking, and it wasn’t froofy. Plus, it was 50% off. It was perfect! I have been looking on and off for a while now because I have somehow lost four teaspoons from my current set. But I decided to follow Lauren’s advice. I put it down and walked away. In fact, I didn’t get it. I just went home.

Well, I couldn’t stop thinking about it, so I went back yesterday and got it. Yesterday after church, my family all went to the airport, and I went to Tuesday Morning. I got the silverware and went back home. And took a nap.

My pictures don’t show the nice heft it has, and doesn’t quite capture how large the tines of the forks are, but here’s what the new set looks like:

Lovely! That’s a perfectly reasonable purchase. I’m proud of you, young padawan.

A quarter would have given us a good reference for tine size. Did you forget the rules?

  3. Peggy

I have Oneida Flight … but my set came with a lot more pieces than that! I think you got ripped off …

(PS: try the tablespoon test again)

Check the backyard for those spoons Farmer Brown.

    Solving the missing tablespoon problem:

Buy plastic silverware, so that you’re never, ever, ever tempted to take a piece of silverware out of the house. Invariably, it will get lost.

My silverware set was service for 12, plus 6 extra teaspoons. For those of you who don’t have your calculator handy, that’s 18 spoons. I’m down to 11! I have no clue where they’ve gone, but I have a feeling that when I find them, I’m going to find a boatload of socks too!

P.S. Your new set is beautiful. Good luck keeping the spoons.

P.P.S. How’s the crabby finger today?

So, will you turn your old set into the “take out of the house for lunches, etc.” set?

    • Annette

      windchimes?
      Christmas ornaments?
      bracelets?

  10. Tara

Oooooo!!! I want a bracelet Uncle Brad!

Teaspoons are always the first to go – the Freys have the same phenomenon. That fact alone would have me risk buying a whole new set of silverware at this stage of the game. Seeinx’ how they’re old A & P sets from Mom, I doubt I could find matching pieces anywhere now.

…and yea, serious shopping always exhausts me, too. That’s why I rarely do it any more – too old for that much excitement.
