A Good Day… A Glue Day

Yesterday was a good day. I started off the morning with our church’s annual Carol Service. The choir sang six pieces or so, and there was lots of Christmas carol singing. It was delightful. I also really like how the church is decorated from year to year. The evergreen garlands against the stone look really good to me.

'O come, all ye faithful...'

In the afternoon, I went to see “The Day the Earth Stood Still”. It was interesting, but there was a character that I really didn’t like. It was a disobedient little boy. He made me angry to distraction. We’re supposed to like him at the end, but I was still angry with him for being so disobedient earlier.

After the movie, I stopped in at Staples. I’m running out of glue because we’re sticking stars on our lockers at school. Three big bottles of glue were $9. A giant glue refill jug was $14. I got the giant one. It’s a gallon! Sheesh! Anybody need some glue?

How many horses had to die to make this? (Do they really make glue from horses?)

Your church is gorgeous! I bet singing in there is awesome.

I’ve got some ways for you to use up that glue if you want. Making flubber uses up a whole cup at a time, but you have to buy some Borax. (A giant box so you can use 2 teaspoons.)

Isn’t borax poisonous? And isn’t flubber for playing with? That seems like a dangerous combination.

      • Lauren

Only if you eat the flubber -but it’s tough to resist!

Did those ladies in front of you know you were taking pictures of their right and left ears (respectively)?

    • Brad

I took the picture during the first verse of “O Come All Ye Faithful”. I think that even the men on either side of me didn’t notice I was taking pictures.

I needed a big jug of glue last week to make cinnamon smelling Christmas ornaments with my kindergartners. Where were you when I needed you?

    • Deanne

How do you make cinnamon smelling ornaments with glue? Sounds like fun!

        Follow these directions:

I tried to send you the website twice, but it didn’t put my comment in. So now I’m just trying a comment.

Now I’ll just tell you the recipe: 4 cups cinnamon, 3 cups applesauce, 1/2 cup Elmer’s glue. Knead together (may need to add extra water). Wrap in plastic wrap for about an hour. Roll out and cut out shapes with cookie cutters. Poke a hole in the top for a hook. Let dry for a few days. Makes about 20 decent sized ornaments.

I was always confused by the picture on this glue. Is the glue made out of cows named Elmer or by Elmer. Or does the cow (named Elmer) make the glue out of missing persons…possibly named Elmer?!?!

Now wouldn’t be the right time to bring up that the Dollar Generals have four (4) glue sticks – which we have been using behind our stars to adhere them to the locker decorations – in a package for only (you guessed it) $1.00…would it? I didn’t think so…
