My phalaenopsis orchid has needed repotting for a while. It’s gotten tall and rangy, and there are aerial roots all over the place. My last repotting was nearly three years ago. (Thank, you memory archive!)
Fortunately, a few leaves have fallen off the bottom of the plant, giving me more stem to bury. I unpotted the plant and shook off the old potting media.
I set the orchid lower in the pot, topped it off with new orchid mix (store-bought potting material made of bark and charcoal and stuff), and voila! I have a new, neater looking orchid plant!
So if you use potting material made of bark and charcoal and stuff, does it mean that the orchid needs good drainage or that there’s a soil shortage in Maryland?
Oh, there’s a “soil” shortage alrightee, Miss Lauren – if you want anything but clay, that is. Forget growing root veggies here for that reason…unless you want baby carrots, that is.
I still swoon over all the lovely orchids in Home DePot everytime I go (and I’ve been going alot lately). I do so want one, but I couldn’t bare to watch it die.
And I didn’t know bedraggled was a word….I’m beshocked.
