I went to a Whale Day festival in Kihei yesterday. I only had the morning, because the cable guy was supposed to come sometime between 12 and 4. (I’ve been having trouble with my cable.)
The festival started with a parade:
The parade wasn’t very long, but it was fun and creative. There was a marching band, some drill teams, and some floats. This one had a bunch of girls dressed like mermaids. Their tails were made of paper plates.
There were no Czech queens, but there were princesses of whales. Ha! I wasn’t fast enough to get a picture.
After the parade, I went to the festival grounds. There were vendors, foods, bouncy houses, and entertainment. I watched a hula dance.
I did a panoramic picture, but for some reason, I can’t embed it. Click HEREto see it.
I was home by noon. The cable guy didn’t come until 4pm. But it was worth the wait. I got a new cable box! It’s a better one than my old one, and holds more in the DVR. Nice.
Ahh…. Whale Day. Very much like Grounghog Day, I understand. The whale comes out of the ocean and if he sees the sky, twelve more months of idyllic weather. You nutty Hawaiians.
I wish I could have been at the parade. Princess of Whales? That is priceless!
No,you>/i> are priceless, Lauren – thou dost continually cracketh me up (KJV)!
…and I meant to put all that initalics…ahem…
Thanks, Carol 🙂 (I like italics, too.)
And a whale of a time was had by all! ba-dump-bump
What kinds of foods do they have at Hawaiian festivals?
