Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Goodbye, Goldenrod

I haven’t done a lot so Sommerer Gardens yet this visit. I just haven’t made time for it. I did want to work on the front a little, since the Fourth of July is coming. Some goldenrod had started to grow in the cutting garden. I’m sure it’s beautiful in the fall, but I never see that. And during the summer, it looks kind of weedy. I decided to pull it all out. It’s a pretty aggressive spreader.

I did before and after pictures, but it’s kind of hard to see because everything is green. There has been a lot of rain this spring, so things are lush and verdant around here.

BEFORE:

The most visible clump is on the right side of the picture.

AFTER:

The picture is not quite from the same angle, but the goldenrod is gone.

God bless you. A thousand times over – God bless you. If it weren’t for you, our yard would look like … I don’t even have a good analogy. Thank you for making it beautiful for the holiday and for the summer. It’s a nice reminder of you when you’re not here. 🙂

Congrats on the garden improvements. (I just finished 2008 in the archives so I have been too busy to do gardening. Ha! As if that was my only excuse!)
