I was trying to get myself yesterday morning when a message came through on my phone:
Ballistic missile threat inbound to Hawaii. Seek immediate shelter. This is not a drill.
I scrambled to put some clothes on, then went into my laundry room, because it is the room farthest from any windows. I texted my coworkers to see if they received the message as well. They did. I spent the next thirty minutes scouring the internet for any information, but couldn’t find anything. It was frustrating.
My coworkers eventually found some info that said it was a false alarm, but the official word didn’t come until 38 minutes later. Thirty-eight minutes of sitting on the laundry room floor with Gus, thinking that a nuclear bomb was going to hit Oahu and start World War Three.
After the all-clear was given, I didn’t go to school and grade like I had planned. I was feeling kind of shaken up. I spent most of the day watching TV and trying to feel normal.
Now the question is, who sent the false warning? Also, I watch t.v. when I need to calm down. 🙂
So thankful you all are ok.
That is absolutely crazy. So thankful that all is well.
That was NUTS. I am so, so glad that it was an error and that you are alright! That was a very surreal experience. Very, very, very, glad it was false.
This awful experience has me thinking about Matthew 24:36ff. No one knows the hour. Apparently that included someone with access to your state’s emergency text message system.
Glad it was a false alarm, and pray the emotional trauma rapidly subsides. It’s good Gus was with you.
Of course the only time I know anybody in Hawaii there is the worst threat to happen there! I know you were freakin out! So glad it was a false alarm. Are you going to break ground on your bunker this weekend? Hhmmm
