Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Morning March

I went hiking with my coworker Maile again. This time her husband came too. What? Hiking two Saturdays in a row?!? I know! It’s awesome!

This time we went to the Waihe’e Ridge Trail. We were a little worried on the way there, because there were heavy clouds over it, and we thought it would be raining, but we went anyway. And it didn’t rain!

I like this trail because it goes through several different types of landscapes. The first one is a forest. I love forests!

There is a whole section of switchbacks that are pretty steep. They were challenging because they were muddy and kind of slippery.

And of course, there are the ridge sections, where there is a dropoff on both sides of the trail. The clouds made that part of the trail particularly mysterious.

We couldn’t see the views, but the up-close scenery more than made up for it. There were tiny mushrooms that looked like flowers. I touched one and it disintegrated. Super fragile!

And there were orchids. They grow somewhere other than Home Depot? Crazy!

The trail ends at an observation platform. There wasn’t much to see, so we just rested a bit and headed back down.

We were done by 11am, and I still had a huge chunk of the day left. Awesome! Maybe we’ll do this some more!

Wow! That is a truly magical-looking hike! The clouds make it very Lord-of-the-Rings with the shrouded mystery. (Although, that one where it drops off into the clouds on both sides does give me a bit of the jibblies.) Way to go, hikers!

Orchids growing elsewhere than Home Depot. Ha! You crack me up sometimes…

Say…about that foggy rise that leads to where you can’t really see yet…have any horror movies been filmed there lately/ever? Seems a natural.
