Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

New Territory

I went walking on the beach near my house, and saw something I don’t think I remember ever seeing…

There is a pile of rocks that is often the end point of my walks. The rocks go into the water, and I can’t go past them. Except this time:

The tide was so low there was sand in front of the rocks. Sand! I walked past the rocks and stood on the beach beyond for the first time. It was so exciting!

What?? What is happening there? That has to be a man-made pile of rocks, yes? (I am having a little anxiety looking at that picture. Breathe. Breathe.)

I have the opposite reaction to the picture, Lauren. It is very calming to me.

But the rocks are blocking your escape!!

Are the rocks there to try to keep a beach private? Are all beaches public?

    To answer the questions:
Yes, I do believe it’s a man-made pile of rocks. The beach is in front of an old resort. There are, by law, no private beaches in Hawaii, but resorts and private residents sometimes make it difficult to get to the sand.
