Ninety Percent

Tomorrow is my first day of school. I’ve been working on my list of things to do, and I am 90% done. That is, 90% done with each item on the list. I work on something, then get distracted by something else that needs to be done, then jump to something else five minutes later. Sheesh!

Yesterday, I got 90% done with organizing the back wall. I needed to make room for backpacks and wire baskets, because the lockers were taken out this summer, so 8th grade homeroom will keep their stuff on the shelves.

My classroom has a LOT of books in it – novels, text books, reference books, and some odd miscellaneous things. The most unusual book I found was an absolutely enormous volume about the art treasures of Yugoslavia. This ought to be worth something some day, right? I mean, Yugoslavia doesn’t even exist any more.

I have decided I won’t throw anything away until I know the school better, so I really had to stack and stash things to make room. I think there’s enough space for the eighth graders’ things now:

I’m also 90% done with my classroom aquarium. It has fish now! I got white cloud mountain minnows. They’re hard to see in the picture, because they’re the same color as the rocks. There are fifteen of them.

Wow – it looks just right! You put in a lot of work and the kids have a neat, welcoming space that will start their school year off right. I hope that you have slept well and I pray for a great kickoff to your year!

Glad you are settling in to your new classroom. Prayers for a wonderful first day! Btw – Love your bulletin board!

Do the middle schoolers at the new school switch rooms during the day or stay put and different teachers come to them? That could determine how much room you’ll need to save for their “stuff”, I should think. They might be taking items with them all day that needn’t be stored in your room then, no? So long as there’s space for coats, back packs, and lunch boxes, you should be golden now. Looks great!

BTW – what’s the mean temperature these days where you are? We’re seeing horrible things on the news about CA up through OR. A friend in LA – who actually likes heat (go figure, some people) – actually thinks it’s too much for her, so I know it’s bad. Praying for safety for everyone…
