We drove to the west side of Maui yesterday. That’s the Lahaina side. I had seen than my church here had put up a memorial to those who had died in the fire, and I wanted to stop there.
We continued on to Ka’anapali, to visit the penguins at the Hyatt. They weren’t there. They were living somewhere else while their habitat was being renovated. Dang.
But at least we got to eat at their little poolside cafe. We’d been there before, and enjoyed it so much.
We got our usual fruit plate and quesadilla…
…and enjoyed the ocean view:
But there was a new feature this year. Did you see it in the above picture?
There was a cat lounging in the patio! In past years, there were a lot of birds begging for food. I think the cat’s job was to keep them away.
After we ate, we walked to the beach. It was beautiful.
When we got home, we relaxed a little, and then I headed to my exercise appointment.
The internet was misbehaving, so in the evening we went to a movie. But first, dinner – an egg salad sandwich from the ABC store, eaten in the car while watching the sunset. Ahhh… now THAT’S the good life!
Well, I didn’t expect to begin the day with tears. That memorial is beautiful and heartbreaking.
The rest of your post was a good soul-cleanse. Cats, out-of-office penguins and sandwiches? Sign me up.
