Our before-school teacher meeting was yesterday. It was nice to get to know my new co-workers a little. Around noon, we had stopped to pray for someone from the school community who is ill, and the building started to shake. Earthquake!
There have been some since I’ve lived here, but I haven’t really felt them. This one, I felt. It was a side-to-side kind of motion. It felt a lot like being in a car, except we were in a building. Some of the teachers went under the table. I just kind of froze. I guess I need to work on my earthquake-response behaviors…
The epicenter was north of us. In the map below, if you find “Long Beach” and look north of that, you’ll see “San Diego Fwy”. My school is on the blue line above the “w” in “Fwy”

We joked about our prayers moving mountains, then finished praying, then continued our meeting. Just another day in California.
I wondered about that! The news article I saw talked about it being a 4.4 or 4.7 (I forget) and it did seem awfully close to you. I’m glad it was just a little shaking, but I’m sure that was a little freaky.
I think you must be the one who attracts the shakes. Weren’t you in the BLS library during pre-school meetings when we had a little tremor, epicenter in Virginia (8/23/2011)? Knock it off already! We know you have special powers, Brad. 😉
