Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Unwelcome Worm

I didn’t take a picture of anything yesterday, so here’s something from my camera roll. It’s a picture of a tomato worm – a giant, tomato-plant-eating critter that would have eventually turned into a tomato worm moth. The moths are giant, too, and look a little like hummingbirds. I remember them from my Grandpa Hummel’s farm. He would have us swat the moths with fly swatters.

I cut the branch off of the tomato plant and dropped it into my yard waste bin, which got picked up last Thursday. Good-bye, tomato worm.

He’s pretty disgusting…but somehow reminds me of the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland. Was that ‘pillar modeled after tomato worms, I have to ask?

Your website was loading slowly this morning, so I read the text before the photo came up. I’m not ashamed to say that I braced myself a little bit. God made lots of interesting creatures, but some of them certainly are kind of icky.

Those beasts ravaged our tomatoes this year. Check it out: https://kleckmusic.wordpress.com/2024/08/15/war-on-worms/
