The fires continue to burn. Many schools were closed yesterday because of the smoke. My school was far enough away from things that the air was good enough for being inside. Still, we stayed inside for recess, and only went outside when necessary.
After school, the middle school teachers were meeting, when our phones all went off and displayed this message:
Evacuate? Gather your loved ones? Holy cats! But we were so far away from the fires! Was this real? We all started searching for more information…
About fifteen minutes later, another message came:
And a few minutes later, another:
It was a false alarm. Whew! It reminded me of the missile alert from when I was in Hawaii. I told my co-worker about it, and got a little emotional. I think this false alarm triggered me. How interesting…
Yikes! These false alarms are pretty big deals. Although “everyone makes mistakes”, there are some things you just cannot mess up.
Good grief! That’s a heckuva thing. I am sorry for the emotional roller coaster, and I hope you feel better. I remember the missile situation – that was awful!
However….. I don’t think it would be dumb to do a video inventory of your house and what’s in it. That’s something we have done in case of an emergency.
Lauren has a good point there, Brad. When you can find the time, consider that video inventory for your insurance……..assuming anyone in your area can even get insured any more. (The news makes it sound as if this is an issue now?) Not that we’e ever done this ourselves. It just sounds wise.
Wow! So many emotions! Prayers are happening here for your state and city. So much distruction !
