Since this is my first time through the textbooks at my new school, I spend a lot of time creating supplementary materials for it.
After school yesterday, I took a while to make a Power Point slide show about the song “Yankee Doodle”. The eighth grade text book mentions it, and I wanted to share a few more details.

It’s not just finding the information, it’s also formatting the slide show. It has to be the right design and colors and layout and font. HERE is the finished product. Too bad it will only take a few minutes to present it.
Isn’t that always how it goes – 10 hours to prepare a good audio visual presentation and 10 minutes to actually share it? [Reminds me of weddings vs. marriages, or dinner prep vs. dining.] But it will be worth it to provide that ancillary data that may well stick with students more than anything the book had to offer them. On their behalf I thank you for taking the time to “do it right”.
Well done! It looks great and was educational for me! Thanks!
That song has always made me wonder how ‘macaroni’ can mean two very different things, and also – which came first?
Good job, Brad! I have a new science and social studies curriculum, so I spend time doing the same thing. I also am still figuring out my literacy curriculum that we got last year, so I spend a lot of time prepping. Hopefully next year will be better.
