Last time we had chapel, we sang “God Loves Me Dearly”. I know this song from when I was a kid. I must have sung this hundreds of times. I pretty much have it memorized. But when we got to the last verse, I kept stumbling on the words.
I couldn’t figure it out at first, but then I realized – the hymn book said “Now I will praise you”, but my mouth kept saying “Now will I praise you”. Were the words different from the old hymn book? I checked it out. Yes. Yes, they were.
(I didn’t take a picture of the old hymn book, but I should have so that I could put it here. Maybe I’ll update the post later today.)

Crazy hymn writers. I think they did that for just such an instance as this.

This is a pet peeve of mine – altered lyrics to familiar hymns, particularly when you are singing from memory/without looking at the hymnal and you notice that everyone around just sang a different line or three than you remembered. Has no one at CPH ever heard of “If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it?”…sigh…
I have my dad’s 1941 hymnal right now (the red one) and I can’t find God Loves Me Dearly in it at all! At least it’s not under G in the index of first lines. I assumed this was the hymnal you were thinking of, but it must be another one.
