Yesterday started off with a trip to the Iwo Jima Memorial. I’ve seen it before, but never with real humans for scale. Can you see them? They look so tiny!

Our next stop was the Capitol Building. It was crazy there because the president was there to address Congress about a bill. They held up the tours for a while, which caused long lines.

There was also a lot of security. We saw people up on the dome.

Zooming in, it looks like this person is in tactical gear of some kind.

When we finally got to it, the tour was good. It’s one of my favorite things we do in DC. The inside of the dome is cool.

It was also fun to see how many kids were sticking their tour stickers on each others’ backs.

The next stop were the Smithsonian museums of natural and American history. This year, I took pictures of an original Bob Ross painting…

…and a statue of George Washington in Roman style, comparing him to Cincinnatus, a Roman leader. We just talked about Cincinnatus in sixth grade history, so I had to get a picture:

On our way out of town, we saw Martin Luther. Cool!

We spent the evening traveling to Gettysburg. Today we will tour the battleground, then head to New York. It’s supposed to rain for the rest of our trip. Hopefully we can stay dry…
George is looking pretty buff. I envy his muscle tone.
Another jam-packed day! I’m sorry for the long lines and waiting, and I hope the kids were tolerant. Waiting patiently is a good life skill.
Is everyone prepared with rain gear, or are you going to buy some overpriced ponchos?
Cincinnatus is a favorite of mine. I always lament that current politicians don’t seem to have his same “public SERVANT” attitude about their jobs…but I digress.
So y’all were there for the signing of the over-1000-page Big Beautiful Bill, eh? Looks like there might have been over 1000 souls waiting in those lines!
You got to see happy little clouds, too – I’d be jealous if it weren’t agin’ ma’ religion.
I’d forgotten that there was a Luther statue in DC – I only know of the one near Lake Montebello in Baltimore. One used to drive by him on the way to Memorial Stadium back in the day…
And what a state of affairs that there need to be tactical guards on the roof of the Capitol. Don’t know if that would make me feel safer or more depressed. 🙁
Safe travels to Gettysburg and NYC now!
