Movie Magic

Yesterday, we went on a tour of Warner Brothers Studios

It was so cool!

We opted for the classic movies tour. I liked it, because I learned some things, and because we were a smaller group. I also think we got to do some things the other groups didn’t.

Our guide took us on a trolley ride around the lot. We saw the famous water tower, of course. It’s temporarily covered with a Superman ad because of the movie.

We also saw many other wonders. Here is where the Waltons house used to be. It burned down, so you can’t see it any more, but there are some other buildings still there.

Here’s a part of the lot that looks like brownstone houses:

But the insides are mostly empty

Here’s George Clooney’s parking spot. He has an office on the studio lot.

Here’s a building that served as the courthouse for Night Court. It was also the police station on the old Batman TV show.

Here’s the fountain from the opening credits of Friends. People were taking turns posing on a couch in front of it.

The lot is, of course, a working studio. One of the shows they are actively filming there is Abbott Elementary.

There are sound studios on the property too. They’re big buildings that house indoor sets. Each building had a plaque on it that said what movies and shows had filmed there.

There’s a giant building full of props. Almost all of them are for rent. Some of the famous ones are for display only, like the Leg Lamp from A Christmas Story…

…and the scale that sat on the table in front of One-Eyed Willie from The Goonies

After our driving tour was over, we got dropped off at an indoor museum. There were many photo opportunities. Look! It’s my mom and me on a recreation of Central Perk from Friends!

We also did Leonard and Sheldon’s place from The Big Bang Theory:

Some of the displays helped demonstrate some of the special effects movies and TV do. Here is Denis and me showing Forced Perspective. Denis looks so small!

There was a whole section on Harry Potter. I did a Sorting Hat experience. It did not sort me correctly. I am a Gryffindor. It said I was a Ravenclaw.

There was also a section dedicated to DC comics. There was so much exciting content. Here’s a lot of the Batman costumes, actually worn by the actors:

Here are costumes from the Wonder Woman show (actually worn my Lynda Carter!), Marlon Brando’s Jor-El costume, and Christopher Reeve’s Superman costume:

…and the Superman costume and Lex Luthor costume from the current Superman movie:

Wow! What an amazing experience! I will definitely recommend this to anyone who comes to LA.

AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!! (( don’t know how to spell the appropriate scream of delight.) That is AMAZING!!! What a fun, fun, fun, fun day – so many things to see and dream about! I don’t know that I would have left that brownstone set. Holy moly, Brad – what a great experience you all had!

[You realize you sat in Sheldon’s spot, right? Hope he won’t plan any revenge on you now…]

That was indeed a cool tour; thanks for sharing so much of it here so we could all feel as we we went, too.

This took me back to when we visited a friend in LA eons ago and she took us through whichever studio filmed Jaws, as I specifically recall Thurman, Captain Duck, being drenched by a wave a he stood on the boat and every one called out “Captain, duck!” (Yes, commas matter…)

Wait. In the new Superman movie, they put him in boy shorts?

(that whole tour was very cool!)
