Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Bothersome Bugs

The roses in front of my house have lots of blooms on them, but they aren’t looking very good. I think there might be a disease issue. But I know that part of the problem is fig eater beetles, because I’ve seen them.

There was one eating a rose yesterday. I caught it in the act:

You can see the bite marks on the petal:

Stupid fig eater. I killed it.

So fig eaters also eat rose petals? Opportunistic little critters! We have a fig tree in the back yard (not producing much I the past few years, but I digress) and an old rose bush I the west side of the house – I can honestly say I’ve never seen these on either. Thank you for letting us know what to look for. Now…what is the remedy?

Carol, you don’t have to worry about fig eater beetles there in Maryland. Though you do have to watch for those smaller green shiny beetles – Japanese beetles.

Crikey! I was not expecting such a big bug. *jibblie*
