This isn’t really my story to tell, but I want to put it into the memory archive so I remember when it happened.
In the early hours of the morning yesterday, strong winds went through Seward and caused a lot of damage. I asked Beth what happened, and she said: “They think it was microbursts, which are tiny tornadoes. Estimating 90mph wind. It snagged the top of the big hackberry tree, and just uprooted it.”
The tree smashed their shed. When the roots pulled up out of the ground, they tore apart their garage, and lifted up Harold’s truck, bending the frame.

They had help getting into the garage and getting Beth’s car out, but Harold’s was up on the root.

Other people had damage, too, including Deborah, and Lloyd and Lauren. Lloyd twisted his knee, but I didn’t hear about anyone else getting hurt. But I’m sure the damage will be difficult to live with, and will cost time and money in repair arrangements. I’m also sure prayers will be appreciated.
Thank you for recording this, Brad. I didn’t think I’ll get around to a proper record, but I’ll go ahead and write something on my site.
Beth and Harold are being rock stars through this whole thing. The amount of damage are future re-building in enormous and overwhelming.
When I saw a generic post about this event on Facebook yesterday, I immediately thought of your family and friends back in Seward. Now I know more specifically how to pray, so thanks for sharing more detail. How about your Mom? Russ?
…and how are you through all this, friend? Did your alma mater receive much damage? I heard the power was out there…
God continue to protect everyone and guide their future endeavors; looks like this won’t be a quick fix.
Johnny and I had 12 hours without power at our house so we lost all the food in our fridge. A branch broke the outer pane of one front window, and another branch punched a little hole in our roof. But with help from my parents, neighbors, and Concordia football players, it only took us a couple of hours yesterday morning to get our yard cleared. When I woke up during the storm, I realized our cat, Caboose, was still outside, and I ran to the front door. He was already there waiting to get in, and that’s what I’m most grateful for because it was probably only 10 or 15 minutes later that we heard the branches falling. What I am most disappointed about is that Channel 8 news chose to immortalize me for saying I “bolted awake.” What a dumb phrase.
I also have not heard about anyone being injured so we are thankful for that!
It was a wild day. We’re still without power and probably will be until Tuesday.
I don’t like messes… erg.
