Mat Machinations

I went to the home goods store yesterday looking for plant pots, because I can never have enough plant pots. While I was there, I perused the kitchen section. There was a woman who was carrying around a silicone mat for putting in the sink to protect it from getting scratched when you wash the dishes. I was excited to see it, because it was the perfect size to fit my farmhouse sink.

When I went to look for sink mats, I didn’t see any. I think she maybe had the last one. Dang. I didn’t want to ask her where she got it, because what if it was the last one? Then she would feel bad (maybe), and I would feel bad for making her feel bad. So I just kept circling the area looking for more sink mats.

Then I heard the lady showing the sink mat to her husband. He said that it wouldn’t fit their sink. He said their drain was off-center, and the mat (with its center hole) would never work. Woo hoo! She was going to put it back, and I could get it!

But then I had to wait for them to leave the area, so she didn’t see me grabbing it. I didn’t want her to think I was some kind of lurker waiting to steal it from her. I had to pretend to be busy on my phone for quite a while as she continued to browse the kitchen area.

Finally, I sneaked it off the shelf and scurried down the side aisle. Success!

The mat is perfect. Perfect size. Perfect color. I’m so happy that woman put it back down. Now I can wash pots and pans with no worries about scratching the porcelain.

You must publish these diary entries some day – your writing style would make them a best seller, Brad. No kidding.

…and congrats on the ideal sink mat find.

You’re like a kitchen-accessory raccoon with your scurrying! Congratulations on your success!

Someone on Reddit asked why the inside of their white coffee cup had a bunch of lines. Someone said that ceramic was harder than metal and the cup was scraping off bits of the spoon. That’s why Bar Keepers Friend can take off the scratches. I need to look into that more……
