Sampling Soda

I stopped at a fast food place for lunch yesterday. When I went to get my drink, I looked for unsweet iced tea. It’s my go-to drink at restaurants now, since I don’t want the calories and sugar of regular soft drinks, and since artificial sweeteners leave a bad taste in my mouth.

They didn’t have unsweet iced tea. All they had was sodas. I got a root beer, but I couldn’t drink it. It was bitter and sweet at the same time. I poured it out and tried Pepsi. Nope. Starry? Nope. Fruit punch? Nope. Ack! I can’t drink sugary soda any more? That’s weird.

I ended up getting water, and putting enough fruit punch in it to stain the water red.

I mean, I guess it was a good thing – all that sugar isn’t very good for me. But it sure was weird. I can’t drink soda any more? …maybe something was wrong with their machine…

I think this might merit having a bottle/can of soda to see if it was just the machine (which I suspect).

Water with a splash of flavor, though? That’s my jam.

I’d’ve been stuck as well then, as unsweet tea is my go-to, both at home and away. If I went somewhere that lacked in it their menu, I’d just ask for water with lemon in it (cite Lauren’s post above). Not only does it remove a source of unwanted sugar but it’s generally free.

I rarely drink soda anymore. At home I drink water with a splash of dragonfruit vitamin water. If we go out it is mostly water with lemon or unsweetened tea.
