Water Weights

I have a vacuum in my pool that’s connected to the pump by a hose. The hose powers the vacuum, and it carries away anything the vacuum sucks up. It’s less work than my rechargeable robot vacuum, because I never have to clean it or recharge it. But the hose floats on the surface of the water and gets in the way of the robot skimmer, so the surface of the water has a lot more junk floating on it.

It got me wondering if there was some kind of weight to hold the hose down. There is!

It just clips onto the hose. With enough of them in place, the hose is under the water, and the skimmer is unimpeded.

The hose is on the floor of the pool in the picture, but when the pump is running, the hose lifts up and the vacuum moves freely.

I am so curious about this – does it automatically go around your pool like a Roomba? I know the skimmer is alive and sentient (all hail Zorp), but is the vacuum?

Lauren, I forgot to answer this question. The vacuum connected to the hose is just powered by water. The pool pump supplies the suction, and the water moving past the vacuum mechanism powers the wheels. It doesn’t think about where it goes – it just moves around randomly and eventually covers the pool.
