We started our day yesterday at Arlington cemetery. We laid a wreath at the tomb of JFK. It was moving.

We also went to the tomb of the unknown soldier. It was also moving.

Being back in this area gives me lots of memories of my old garden in Baltimore. Arlington cemetery had peonies! They smelled so good.

Next was a visit to the archives. Look! It’s the Declaration of Independence!

We had a good chunk of time at the Smithsonian air and space museum. They had an original model of the Starship Enterprise from Star Trek!

Lunch had given me an acid stomach, and I needed to find something to help it. There were no antacids in the gift shop, but the cafe had coffee drinks. Yay! I asked for a glass of milk. The worker didn’t know how to ring it up. She pointed me to the ultra-pasteurized milk in the display case. Yuck! I asked if she could sell me a latte, cold, with no coffee. Yes, she could. Seven dollars later, I had a glass of milk:

After dinner, we did an evening monument walk again. I got some pictures of the sunset sky:

I got an “after dark” picture as well.

A seven dollar glass of milk 0 now THERE’S a travel memory for the books…sorry for you!
BTW, you weren’t anywhere near where Monday’s shooter was, were you? (I understood he was not far from the Washington Monument.) Never a dull moment DC.
…and I’m a tad jealous about your seeing the Enterprise. As near as we live to the Smithsonian, last time I was there was with Rosie Walbert on those annual grade 6 field trips…never saw it…sigh
Wow! I hope that healed your stomach for the day.
So much to see! I hope the children are able to take it all in. I think I’d like to go along next time. 🙂 (Minus the children and the pressure to mind them.)
