Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

DC Trip, Day 4

We had a few things on our list for yesterday, but my favorite was our visit to the Capitol building.

By crazy coincidence, Kim from Baltimore texted me out of the blue saying she had had a dream about me. I texted her this picture:

It’s from the “visitor center” part of the Capitol building. Kim texted back saying: “I know what tour you are on today.” Ha! She teaches History, and has done so many of these kinds of trips.

The Capitol Building is full of history, but also is the location of so much of our current-day government dealings.

This year, I was fascinated by the marble inlay in the crypt. The crypt is one floor down from the dome room. It was supposed to have George Washington’s body in it, but his family decided to keep him at Mount Vernon. The marble inset in the floor is a compass rose.

The dome room is always cool to visit. The painting on the ceiling is cool. George Washington is on the bottom with a pink blanket on his lap.

And the floor of the done room has a marble inset in the middle of the room too. It’s where they put the coffin when people lie in state.

After the Capitol Building, the kids visited the Smithsonian American history and natural history. I didn’t see much there, because I was helping a student make a visit to urgent care. (He’s going to be fine. I’m glad we could go.)

Last night we stayed in Gettysburg. They had a pool!

Today we’ll see the cemetery and battlefield, then head to New York.

How cool (that Kim reached out to you while you were in a familiar space like that) – and grateful for Urgent Care when you’re “on the road”. Glad everything is okay…

While we realize you are these entries for your own sake, we readers are always grateful that you share your travelogues with the rest of us. Saves much money by staying home while having the experience virtually. Bless you.

Yet another whirlwind day, this time with a medical adventure! I’m with Carol, and am glad the student is going to be ok.

I, too, have a pink blanket, and from this time forward, I will feel presidential when I watch tv under it’s comfiness.
