Misugaru Monday

I got up early and did my grading at school yesterday. I’m done! Yay!

In the afternoon, I met with an elder from church to discuss upcoming services. We met at a coffee shop near my house that I didn’t know was there because it’s behind an Arby’s. It’s a nice place. I enjoyed having our chat there. I can imagine going back there to read or work on a laptop or something. They had outrageously large sweet treats that I’m curious about as well.

For my meeting with the elder, I only wanted something to drink. They didn’t have raspberry syrup, so I couldn’t get my usual raspberry latte. Instead I ordered something they said was their specialty drink. It was called misugaru.

I got a misugaru latte – that is, misugaru powder mixed with warm milk. It was really good. It tasted like sweet bread, or blenderized oatmeal, or granola juice. (It’s hard to describe). I will definitely have it again though. Yum!

The internet tells me misugaru is a Korean food. That helps explain all the Koreans in the cafe…

More Musubi

Yesterday was the last day of school before Christmas break. It was a half day. We had a day of games and presents and food. I decided I would take proper Maui party food, and I made Spam musubi.

The kids really liked it. Some of them even had seconds. It was all gone by the end of the day.

It was a great last day. And now we rest a little…

Counting Calories

I have egg nog in my refrigerator right now. Mmmmm….

I was going to do a calculation of it’s calorie content and make a joke about how many total calories were in the jug, but the number was lower than I expected: only 2,702. Heck, I’ve eaten that many calories in one sitting before. I mean, it’s surely been a while since I’ve done that, but still…

Anyway, it seems I’ve been restrained in having only about a cup or so of nog each time I drink it. That’s about two servings, or 340 calories. Shoot, that’s like eating a candy bar

….or a whole low-calorie meal, I suppose… Maybe it’s good this is only available around Christmas time.

Donut Dwelling

Here’s something interesting about LA: there are very few Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme locations here, but here are a TON of mom and pop donut shops.

There’s one on my way to church, and I like to stop there for a giant glazed donut, and a second donut that’s different each time.

It is interesting to note that I’ve had donuts from three different ones of these places, and the donuts taste the same. They all use the same recipe?

Burger Place

Boo! Happy Halloween!

And Happy Reformation Day! (I’m not sure what exclamation to use for that.)

There is a diner in walking distance of my house. I have passed by it many times as I’ve driven away from my house. I want to try having breakfast there some time, but I haven’t gotten around to it. But yesterday I did stop for dinner.

It’s known for it’s burgers, so that’s what I got:

It was delicious! I devoured it quickly and completely. Yum! I also got fries. They were good too. They’re ketchup kind of fries. They would also be good with some Old Bay seasoning on them. I’ll have to try that next time.

Yay! I found a great burger place here! If you come and visit, I will definitely suggest we eat there some time.
