Candy from the Future

While I was out this weekend, I stopped at Target to get a few essentials. While I was checking out, I noticed a new product in the gum and mints section. It was from the makers of IceBreakers. It was called PACS. There isn’t much more information on the package… just that it was orange flavored and it was sugar free and sweetened with Xylitol. Still wanting to conduct some experiments with sugar alcohols, I got it.

The “mints” are little pouches of powder. The pouch is made of orange-flavored material that dissolves in your mouth. The powder inside is cool and sweet and why these things would be called mints. They are very peculiar. I don’t know if they’ll catch on or not. They taste okay, but the dissolvable pouch material is a little gummy. Plus they look like little bags of cocaine.

The most interesting thing is that these have not been released into the general market yet. There is an add for them on the Hershey website, but it says “PREPARE for an amazing rush” (emphasis mine). And other things I’m reading say these “PACS” aren’t supposed to be released until later this year… perhaps December 7. One of the more interesting links I discovered was the webpage of the guy who designed the packaging.

So if these haven’t been released, how does the Target in White Marsh have them for sale? Curious…

Small packages of white powder. Did anyone even consider how much these look like cocaine?

    Test marketing?

And how would you know what little bags of cocaine look like?

How did the sugar test come out?

Dang. You stole my cocaine comment.

I want to know if there’s a little tracking device on the bottom of the package. Perhaps you’ve become part of the Final Stage of Testing!

I like the little box they come in. Even better than TicTac boxes for holding Barbie shoes.

These remind me of laundry detergent things they sold a while back that came like that. You just threw one in for each load. BTW: Some pregnant women crave to eat detergents & soaps. Maybe these Pacs are geared towards them, what with the powder & all. Any chance you might be pregnant Brad?

I just noticed the quarter – those things are huge!

You answered your own “I don’t know if they’ll catch on or not” question with “Plus they look like little bags of cocaine”. Need I say more?

I too love the packaging. I’m a “tiny tins” junkie myself.

I found them at Target tonight!! I can’t wait to try one! 😀

Oh wow! I LOVE them! I wish they were a little cheaper – 2 bucks for just 18 of them. I probably won’t be getting them again.

That’s just what I told my dealer.
