The End of Lent

Happy Easter! He is risen!

Today marks the end of Lent, and therefore the end of my Lenten Sacrifice time. I feel pretty good about what I’ve done. I missed a couple of times, but there were extenuating circumstances, what with the lock-in and all. Yesterday I cleaned off the kitchen counters and loaded the dishwasher. Here’s the rest of the list from most recent to least recent:

Clear the dye out of the washing machine. (I think this may take a while.) Collect trash from all over the house to put out. Clean off the TV trays in the living room. Unload the dishwasher. Straighten the kitchen and load the dishwasher. Cut back the sweat plants. Begin taking overwintering plants back outside. Start cleaning out the garden. Clean the aquarium. Unload the dishwasher. Pull up the asparagus skeletons from last summer. Begin working on taxes. Clean and straighten the dining room. Clean up the inside of my pickup. Nothing. (Updated 3-26-07) Yesterday? What’s that? Bundle couch cardboard boxes to leave on the curb. Water plants upstairs. Clean off the TV trays in the living room. Gather the trash to be put out. Wash the sheets and make the beds. Scrub the bathtub again. (Tara was going to bathe and I didn’t want her to be in a dirty tub.) Load dishwasher. Take out the trash. Clean the aquarium. Scrub the bathtub. Clean my bedroom. Clean the living room. Take your pick. Clean the litter box. Gather the trash. Pick up all the used tissues. Replace the stupid handle on the stupid toilet because the stupid thing broke when I tried to bend it a little because of the stupid tank lid. Stupid. Water all plants. Clean the shower and tub. Replace the toilet guts in the downstairs toilet. Vacuum all the upstairs rugs. Clean Ned’s ears. Pay the bills. Clean out all the trash floating around in the garden pond. Sunday I cleaned the aquarium, and yesterday I gathered the trash to put it out.

And yes Michele, I did call the shut-ins, but it doesn’t count as a Lenten Chore because it’s not done at my house. I called all three on my list. One said the pastor was already visiting yesterday, and one didn’t answer the phone. The one I did visit was obviously very lonely. We talked for two and a half hours!

Here’s my proof: One of the cups is gone from my home communion kit.
The Altar Guild will be pleased that I am returning the kit in a speedy fashion this time.

So after you come back from Amsterdam, are you just going to quit house cleaning altogether? Will you wallow in bags of trash and bathtub rings? Ned’s ears will fill with wax and the fish will drown in algae? Say it ain’t so!

I’ll just delay them all like I used to and do them all on a Saturday or Sunday when it gets desperate. No sense in doing today what can be put off until tomorrow. Didn’t Ben Franklin say that?

      • Kim

No, Ben said, “You can’t always get what you want” and “When you can’t be with the one you love, honey, love the one your with”.

        • Lauren

I think Ben said, “Dang it. How come only Presidents get to be on money? I’ll show them…..”

Don’t putz out on us now … you gave us all hope!

Happy Easter Everyone in Bradaptationland! Christ is Risen!

On the way to the car after church Patrick said, “We can say the H and A words now, right?”
I said, “No!”-thinking he was not talking about the Alleluias and Hallelujahs. Where was my mind on Easter Sunday?

Well done on the lenten chores Brad, your house thanks you for your service. As does Ned.

    The Lord is risen indeed!
I am proud of you Brad for visiting someone on your list and ESPECIALLY for visiting that long! It wasn’t scary, was it? This could be the beginning of a new Brad – one who embraces the joy in older people. They tell great stories, don’t they? God loves you even more for putting yourself out there and doing His work. Heck, I even love you more for doing it. I look forward to hearing about the visit.
Peace of Christ to all in Bradaptationland!

Is it possible for anyone to love Brad more?

  4. Peggy

Yeah, ditto for me … what everyone else said.
