I’ve got another rabbit in my yard. Yes, he’s cute and furry and brown. But he also eats my plants.
This winter I ordered special double-petaled coreopsis seeds. I planted them in seed trays and carefully cared for them. After they sprouted, I found nice places for them to grow in my garden… And they were cruelly cut down by the rabbit. Now they’re mere stumps and may not start to flower until late August, which would only give them a month of blooming before the days get cooler and shorter and the flowers stop coming.
What a sad, sad fate for a normally cheerful little flower.
The rabbit even chewed my aster! When/if I get this rabbit, out of respect for my more sensitive viewers, I will not announce it.

I don’t see any chew marks on these plants … so it must have been a snail or slug that did the damage (personally, I don’t see any damage).
But if you’re covinced it’s a rabbit, try this NO FUSS, NO MESS way to get rid of God’s creature. I’ve discovered that rabbits can die by eating penicillin. Sooooooo, get your prescription filled, and wrap a piece of lettuce around a capsule or two and leave it in your garden. Waa-laa!! (then you can grill the rabbit for dinner … taste just like chicken)
You should also fill the Epipen prescription in the event the rabbit doesn’t die quick enough, but merely goes into a seizure. That would be a cool way to try out the Epipen. Once he regains consciousness, wack him with the shovel!
I’ve evidently never scarred you with my own personal Grandma-made-us-kill-and-eat-my-Easter-bunny story, or you never would have so cruelly posted the “tastes like chicken” phrase, O cruel cruel Peggy! It was a traumatic experience for me – don’t eat rabbit to this very day either…sniffle…
Have you thought about planting plants that rabbits really like? Then they would leave your plants alone. Or, if you prefer, it would give you a single spot to aim at.
I’m with Lloyd–have you tried silk arrangements as a decoy? And, I’m with you Brad—no one or no thing should mess with your aster.
