Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

B-Ball

My niece Rachel was playing in the last game of a basketball tournament last night. We went to see her play. We’re proud of her because she’s playing varsity ball as a 9th grader. She’s got skillz.

The game was exciting. We took the lead early and hung on to it until the last few minutes of the game. Then the Fairbury “Jeffs” took the lead and kept it. Since my mom grew up in Fairbury, she was able to explain what a “Jeff” was. It comes from “Jefferson County” and she said the mascot was this short man with a funny mustache. I guess that makes me feel not so bad about having a fleur-de-lis as a mascot.

During the game, I sat with my nephew Daniel and niece Anna. Anna likes to play kitty. Daniel thinks farts are funny. A good time was had by all.

After the game we all went to the buffet at a local pizza place. It was yummy and a fun way to end the night even if we didn’t win.

Good form.

I assume Rachel’s athletic skilz didn’t come from Uncle Brad? I’m sure there are other skills the nieces and nephews have inherited from dear Uncle Brad. 🙂
We had our own little tournament with the Hoffmans last night. Kim won the pool tourney (much to everyone’s surprise) and Dave smoked the ping-pong table. There was also a little farting (tell your nephew) and Sean won that contest!

Correction: My son David informs me that he beat Kim in the championship round of billiards. Sorry Kim – it must have been after I switched from Arizona Diet Green Teat to … well, you know.

      • Kim

It is true. The champions yesterday were the Davids. But you may have thought that I won because I beat Casey in that marathon game of 9 Ball.

And I don’t remember the Diet Green Teat…interesting. But it was a fun night, thanks Steppes!

Great job Rachel! Freshman on Varsity-cool.

I’m sure Brad could play basketball. on X-box.

I’m glad that there are athletic people in the world. They’ll be strong enough to fend off the aliens, while I will be an alien lunch.

  3. Beth

Brad was a basketball star in his youth…haven’t you seen the picture?

Way to go Kim! Way to go Dave! Way to go Sean!

Michele-What did you make? Or what did Randy make?

Lauren-Don’t worry-I’m sure with your cooking resources, the aliens will want you to serve them lunch & maybe I could help beings I too have 2 left feet. I tried the bread. Outstanding!!! (except the bottom burned … do you think it was because I don’t have any stoneware stuff? I used a pizza pan … what do you suggest as a substitute?)

    Brad-a pizza buffet? Yummy!

    • Lauren

      Entering substitution mode….

Do you have a big flowerpot? If you have the saucer from the bottom, that would work wonders!

Do you have any big tiles around? Putting it in the oven upside down might work. (That one might be iffy.)

People often say that they buy big unglazed tiles at Home Depot, but I’ve never looked for those.

I’m glad you made the bread! 🙂 I’m been making Brad eat a whole bunch. I’m trying to weigh him down so he has to stay here. Sorry, Baltimore.

OR – Peggy could just borrow MY stone. Lord knows I have no use for it, right Peg?

        • Michele

BTW Brad – I got a chocolate fondue set during the secret santa exchange with my family. I might need a lesson from the fondue expert!
On the other hand, I might want to regift it – say sometime around February 8th?

Brad, I never understood our mascot to be a fleur-de-lis…but a saint . (Feel free to correct me – I’m hardly Miss School Sports here myself.)

Now, that’s much better, isn’t it? Nothing says sports to me like a dead winged guy.

    • Carol

[The boldface was only supposed to appear on the word “saint”. So, now it’s official – I am about as much Miss Web Log Techy as i am Miss School Sports.]

      Sorry, all…

      • Kim

hehehe…I am laughing with you, Carol.
