Meat? Pie?

At Bible study last night, the dessert was mincemeat pie. I had tasted it before, but was pretty sure I hadn’t had a whole slice. I was also pretty sure that mincemeat pies aren’t commonly made with meat anymore. Pretty sure.

As it turns out, I was right. (I think.) It was a dark, spicy, raisiny pie. I could see how someone could really like it. It’s quite a distinct flavor. The spicy-ness was quite pronounced. It tasted like the recipe must’ve called for a half cup each of cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Whew! The flavors sort of “stayed with me”, if you know what I mean. But I kind of liked it anyway. After looking at a few recipes this morning, I notice that the pie also contains suet. That seems a little weird, but you know those English… they like their weird food.

Joan (the hostess) gave me a piece to bring home. I didn’t eat it right away. Maybe I’ll have it later this afternoon. Then I can belch exotic spice flavors all evening.

The foil makes it look futuristic... Mincemeat Pies In Spaaaace!

I’m glad you explained that, because I’ve always wondered about it. What does the suet look like? Is it in tiny chunks or *jibblie* melted in? Mail that piece to me if you don’t eat it, ok?

Is Mincemeat Pie in Space anything like the Muppets skit of Pigs in Space?

D’oh … I bet you could smack yourself in the head with a shovel … think of all that delicious, fresh suet you buried in your backyard … you could’ve been makin’ pie, pudding, soap, candles … it’s endless!
