Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Sudden Death?

My computer at home will not turn on. I have a few skills when it comes to computer diagnostics, so I tried a few things. Then I called Customer Support, otherwise known as Lloyd. He gave me a few ideas.

Nada.

I think my computer is done for. I’m now trying to decide if I want to take it to a computer guy and pay $100 for him to diagnose it, or if I should just get a new computer. It could be that the computer guy would just have to replace something, and for $150 or so, I’d have a working computer. Or it could be that I would pay the diagnostic fee, only to be told that my computer is unfixable, thus increasing the cost of a new computer by $100.

I think I’ll just get a new computer. It’s what I can do with the funny money that George Bush is having the government print up for me. I don’t like the trade-off: the dollar is devalued, and I get a new computer. But at least I can use the internet to read all about the economy tanking because of the stupid government.

Temporary arrangement: Denis' laptop.

*sniff* ‘Bye, old computer. You brought joy to all the people in Bradaptationland. (Cue: recording of Taps)

Ok, now that we’re done with the sappy stuff, what kind of computer (iMac) will (iMac) you get (iMac)?

Hey, how did my monitor get into your house?

Oh boy, time to shop vicariously through Brad again. That’s also how I got my last (two) hairless cats.

What about your files, Brad? Won’t you have to go to your computer guy to rescue your files? Or do you have a separate storage system?

    • Brad

It is likely that the hard drive is fine. I’ve harvested files from old hard drives before, so I should be okay.

Anything really important is already backed up anyway.

      • Deanne

Wow, you’ve harvested before? Nice! You are truly handy!

        • Lauren

Yeah, but he’s ‘harvested’ rabbits before, remember? It’s not always a good thing.

          • Deanne

            Yes… that’s a scary truth…

NEWS FLASH! The Thurmanator and I procurred a desktop from the former Upper School Computer lab from Steve Haar for $100. That’s the Dell flat monitor, small format “tower”, keyboard and mouse all for $100 Steve has loaded it with current software (to run things at home as we do at school). Apparently, it still needs about $40 of RAM and another $40 for the wireless option, but still all that for under $200 sounded too good to pass up. (Our dinosaur still has a CRT monitor (deeeeeep screen) and a humongous roll-along-the-floor tower that has just about used up any memory it had……no…wait…that was me!)

I just realized I haven’t commented. I don’t have anything to offer. I just call Lloyd, and you have already done that.

    I got nothin’.
