Strange Brew

I went to Lincoln again yesterday to accompany Beth on another attempt to get Tim’s first year pictures taken. It was a circuitous route to victory, but a victory all the same.

Before heading home, we stopped to get gas, and I have to say, I still do a double take when I see the alcohol section in the drink shelves at gas stations and grocery stores. You just don’t see that in Maryland.

But what really disturbs me about the beer on the shelves is a product I haven’t seen before: Beer with clam juice. Really? Clam juice? *gag* I’ve had tomato juice and beer. Surprisingly, that isn’t disgusting. But clam juice just sounds gross. It seems weird that I haven’t seen this product in Maryland, which borders the ocean, but in Nebraska I’m seeing it all over.

I didn’t even consider buying one for a taste test.

Beer with clam juice?!?

I’ve had it…it’s just as disgusting as you might imagine…

It’s popularity here has grown with the increase of our hispanic population. Apparently it’s very popular in Mexico. And Canada. Weird.

    • Deanne

      OK, that’s just weird.

Not just beer and clam juice – beer and clam juice and tomato juice! It makes the ‘surprisingly not disgusting drink’ disgusting!

    Bleh.

I have one can of Clamato left from October, when it was used as blood for a Halloween meal. I’m happy to let you taste test it. Have it!

I think the real question here is…

How do you juice a clam?

    • Peggy

      ha!

That’s not a post you want to read first thing when you wake up. I think I’ll skip breakfast! Yuk!

Now come on – there MUST be SOME use for this stuff. Would it work as well at, say, getting skunk smell off a dog as regular tomato juice, I wonder? Even if it didn’t, the beer would do wonders for the fur – fluffy, light, voluminous fur…all full of skunk…and clam…

    • Lauren

      mmmmm…. clam-scented dog…..
