Strange Craving

I’ve never been much of a fan of crab cakes. They’re too rich for me. Plus, most recipes use mayonnaise, which I’ve been taught to fear more than communism. But for the last few days I’ve been craving crab cakes. I tried to satisfy the craving by having a grilled fish sandwich from the awesome barbecue place across the street from me… no luck. How strange to have this craving.

I think I might be pregnant.

I went to The Crackpot restaurant last night to put this craving to rest. I got a crab cake dinner, which was two crab cakes. It was much too much. I could barely finish one. But it was delicious. Craving sated. Plus, I have a crab cake for tomorrow’s lunch… as long as the mayonnaise holds out until tomorrow.

I ate everything but the lemon, the kale, the butter, the tartar sauce, and the soda crackers. And I only ate one of the crab cakes.

[Unfortunately, Brad, you would now no longer be the first man to be pregnant, you know….]

LOVE the Crackpot crab cakes. Had an Italian CC dinner last Monday, took a cake home for lunch on Wednesday – double the pleasure, double the fun!

A really good crab cake won’t be rife with the mayo anyway – but should have big hunks of meat and minimal bread crumbs. Usually the Crack Pot ones fill that requirement.

Dad’s Mom used to make amazing crab cakes – for a German lady. She took her secret with her when she went, though. Wonder if she’s making them now and we’ll all get to enjoy them again some day?

    Enough heavy theology for now…

It’s post-partum depression. Max is here you know, but perhaps you’re too sleep deprived to remember…

We are a strange bunch with the mayo aversion, aren’t we? I need about two tablespoons for a recipe every 4 months, and I always have to go buy a new bottle…even the mention of mayo makes me a little queasy…

    Mayonnaise. *jibblie* *jibblie*

    Hate you ….

I hope you put everything in the doggy bag so you could have a cracker & lemon sandwich. Mmmmm….

So what are some of your strange cravings?

I actually have a love-hate relationship with food right now. I don’t have morning sickness, but most anything I eat sits in my stomach like a rock. So after I’ve eaten, I can’t think about food because I’m miserable. And once I get hungry again, I can’t think about what to eat, because I just want to eat NOW!
But every now and then I get a taste for something – yesterday it was Toaster Strodels. Today I started looking forward to meeting a friend for lunch this week (I’m going to suggest we go to Red Robin). But I think that’s because I haven’t eaten much, thanks to this UTI and the household virus that’s currently kicking my butt.

P.S. While I’ve never had a crab cake, those look pretty tasty. I might look into where I can get my hands on one. 😉

Dnag! Now all I want is a crab cake…and mayo doesn’t creep me out…old slimy lunchmeat creeps me out.
If I think it has been too long…it gets tossed. When in doubt, throw it out!
