Fiddling

Yesterday I finally was able to leave school quickly and do some stuff at home instead of passing out asleep on the couch. I took my tree trimmings to the dump with no incident, then returned to fiddle with the pond.

The water has been getting steadily more green. Last night I drained most of it and re-filled it with the hose. Maybe the chlorinated water will slow the algae. I did already see some bugs when the water level got low. I’m a little surprised, but very happy. Dragonfly nymphs eat mosquito larvae.

I still don’t like the waterfall, so I deconstructed it just a bit. I got some really nice big rocks from my neighbor Carl. I think one of them might fit the hole that doesn’t look right to me. But my biggest complaint continues to be one of the rocks the water falls off of in the waterfall. I’m considering breaking it with a hammer, but I don’t think that would end well.

Not done.

Hmmmm…. looks like a schedule forty issue. Perhaps you could take a little field trip to Angel Falls or Niagra for some inspiration?

I think your falls are a little too abrupt. You need that stream to meander for a bit before plummeting into the depths.

How do you drain your pond? Does it have a plug in the bottom of it that you can pull?

For some whacko reason I read your title with the first letter as a “w” & was expecting to see a picture of your afternoon’s activity to look something like this:

I see what you mean. That one rock is just too big and flat. I also think a hammer would be ok…but maybe accompanied by a chisel?

    Perhaps a strainer would help??

      Good luck finding it.

    My strainer is broken. *sniff*

I thought the high point of today’s post was the “no incidents” when you made your run to the dump. Congratulations, Brad – about goshdarned time, eh? Kinda builds the confidence you might finally be able to toss things with regularity without the hassle. If you want practice, pull up at our house and grab those rusty 4’x8’grates leaning up against the house for years now, throw ’em in the back of your truck, and see what happens when you get to the dump. You are welcome to also take the old pole lamp…the “kitty condo”…the metal woodpile supports for the woodpile we haven’t had in years…seems nobody at this address feels the need to ever dispose of them. (Who, me bitter?!!)
