Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Happy Thanksgiving!

This morning we’re at the MTDP. I don’t know if anyone actually abbreviates it like that, but I’m too lazy to type it out a second time. Please refer to the title of this post if you don’t like acronyms.

The staff of Long Island Lutheran High School has a long-standing tradition of going to the parade together. A few people go to the parade route at 4am and set up some choir risers on the sidewalk and guard them. The rest of them load into a bus and get dropped off at the site. Then they watch the parade together and cheer (and maybe sing a little?). I went with them years ago. It was really fun.

My parents and I are hooking in with the group this year. We stayed with Andy and Tracey Gove last night. Today we’re watching the parade, then heading home.

I’ve been told to watch for Darius Rucker, because one of my students is a big fan. Other than that, I don’t know what to expect, but it should be fun.

Is this a Boy Scout patch? For being in the parade?

[Neat patch – never even knew they made those for the parade until seeing this one.]

May none of you get bonked in the head with rogue balloons (“Stewie” could hurt a person, I should think!), knocked off your riser post by rowdie youngsters straining to get closer to Santa, or interviewed by annoying television personalities circulating the crowds with microphones…..well, maybe the interview part would be cool, particularly if it meant we could all watch you from the comfort of our living rooms on TV and comment about it later. OJ, maybe a little interviewing would be good.

Get home safely at the end, and enjoy all that brandy. (You did remember to bring what Lloyd told you to, right?)

(The orange juice reference was obviously a typo…Mr. Simpson was not referenced either…dnag it.)

It was at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade years ago that John Tesh first said that I “was the man”.

I called it the “Macy’s Day Parade” for years until Lloyd finally pointed out that I was wrong. Who cares what he thinks? Have fun at the Macy’s Day Parade!

    Happy Thanksgiving, Bradaptationland!

Brad, did you get RickRolled? I can’t believe they did that on national television. Too Funny.

I marched in the parade in 2011, I really want a patch like that, where can I get it???? Please reply!!!

    • Brad

Hi Ryan. I wish I could help you, but I found that picture in a Google image search back when I wrote this post in 2008. I tried searching again just now, but the only place I’m finding a picture of the patch is here at Bradaptation. That’s cool that you marched! Did you hold a rope for a balloon?
