In the process of plant shopping yesterday, I stopped at the sporting goods store. I wasn’t shopping for anything there, but Denis was along and wanted to get some grip-stuff for his tennis racket handle. While he was looking at tennis racket handle grip-stuff, I decided to make a most exciting purchase. I think it may be the closest thing to Happy Fun Ball I’ve ever seen. I had previously seen it several weeks ago and resisted the impulse, but upon seeing it again yesterday, I had to get one.
It’s a clear, hollow, rubber ball that is filled with water and glitter. It is a truly wondrous sight. The glitter sits at the bottom of the ball until you bounce or shake or twist it. Then the glitter floats and sparkles. I could hardly stop looking at it. I think I will keep this in my desk drawer at school so that if I’m having a bad day I can take it out and look at it. It makes me happy.

Now that truly is cool!!! Even those of us not automatically drawn to things sparkly (sp?) and shiny would want one. Great find – be sure to buy one for everyone now!
(So, what are these actually designed to be used for – could you tell by the way they were displayed?)
Ha! I think you can safely say that this wasn’t really an impulse buy, since you put it down the first time. Every now and then we need something to distract us from – SQUIRREL!
Dang. That would be funnier unbolded. Such is life.
No, no – I totally got the – SQUIRREL! – reference, bolded or otherwise.
(wasn’t that a good animated flick, too? My favorite line: “Hello. I just met you, and I love you.” Kind of how I picture Jesus sometimes…)
I like the bold! Definately should be in bold.
And yes, GREAT movie…didn’t expect to ball (cry) in it though.
Don’t you just dig Dug!!
Here’s a little fact about Beth. I don’t watch movies. I haven’t for years. So. What movie are you talking about?
It’s from ‘Up’. I actually haven’t watched it, either, but Brad would yell ‘squirrel!’ every time I would get distracted.

I thought you were referring to Christmas Vacation.
This ball has provided many minutes of entertainment…. for my 6 year old!
Well, your 6 year old is pretty advanced.
hehe….
Super Cool!!!!
I like it ’cause it looks like a magic crystal ball, & my current one is a bit outdated!
‘Should I act on my impulse and just go ahead & get an awesome Happy Fun Ball ?’ (shake-shake)

They had them with magic-8-ball-type answer cubes in them, but I thought it messed with the magical-ness of the sparklies.
I think
ITim would really like one of those for Christmas.I bought one of these recently as a physics demonstration toy.
Since the water doesn’t rotate at first, this ball has a very low angular inertia and will thus do very well in downhill races against ordinary balls.
