Stupid Tall Shoes

Two nights ago, on my way back from my regular barbecue place, I was wearing my new clogs with the giant heels. I was walking fast because I was hungry, and my ankle suddenly turned. It hurt like crazy, but I had just cut in front of a young couple on the sidewalk, so I hopped and shook my foot a little and kept going because I was embarrassed.

Yesterday morning I could hardly walk. My foot felt bruised. But it wasn’t my ankle that was hurting; it was the side and top of my foot. I expected it to be swollen or purple, but it looked like nothing. I decided to wear my teacher shoes from last year to be safe. I was really limping in the morning, but by the afternoon I could almost walk normally. I spent the evening with my feet up hoping things would get better. It was kind of a dull ache when I went to bed.

This morning, my foot feels tight and itchy. It still hurts, but is better than it was. I still don’t have a bruise though. I wish I bruised a little better. Then at least people wouldn’t think I was just making things up.

My left foot.

Um, could it possibly be broken? My friend Kate broke her foot but thought she had only sprained it, and she didn’t find out for a few days.

I, for one, do not think you are making this up.

Nor I, for two. While running for the school bus with my A & P class on our way to the local community college where they dissected cadavers (!), I once also twisted my foot while wearing clogs – nearly passed out from the pain…had to be wheeled to the science office (yes, the school had a science office!) to spend the rest of the day with my let foot elevated…got X-rays (it wasn’t broken), and missed a few days of school because my foot was wrapped and I needed crutches. Not only was that a pain (pun intended), but my students missed the trip to see the cadavers as a result! But in short – yes, I believe you.

Back when I pretended to be an athlete, I had the same injury about once a year. I would twist my “ankle”, but what was actually twisting was my metatarsals. Twisted foot bones. It’s awful.

    I believe you, too.

And, um, we must be related.

I’m sorry about your foot grandpa.

Doesn’t the inching feeling indicate heeling? Or do you have athletes foot?

    My Left Foot…hehe

Well, you might not be able to dance for a while…but you can still sing!

PS Why does your right foot look flat? Have you always had flat feet?

In 2004 I had the unfortunate experience of falling down our basement stairs, effectively spraining both ankles – one ankle was badly sprained, the other severely sprained. The colors that I had from the bruising was nothing short of incredible. I wish I had taken pictures but I was too miserable at the time…

    • Beth says:

I feel that way about my first preegnancy. I should have taken pictures of me pregnant, but I was just too miserable.

      • Karla says:

Don’t worry. I didn’t take many pictures of either of my pregnancies. I was miserable too; not feeling icky, but rather paralyzed with fear.

    • Carol says:

Pray tell – what is the difference between “badly” and “severely” sprained ankles? I’m thinking several Ibuprofen, at least…
