Bajmcat

Because I’ll be at school for a long time today, I decided I wanted to do something weekend-y yesterday. I ended up going to the mall, because there’s nothing like the feeling of spending money. I got some new school pants at TJ Maxx. They were only $14! Cool.

When I’m at TJ Maxx, I always walk through the housewares section because there’s fun stuff there. This time I enjoyed feeling all the rugs. There were a lot of soft ones. I would loved to have gotten some, but soft rugs never stay soft. They’re soft until the first washing, then they’re just sort of nubbly. After a little use they don’t hardly even feel like cloth anymore.

Anyway, while I was in the housewares, I saw a message. I don’t know who left it or what exactly it might mean, but it seemed important enough that I should take a picture of it:

Oddly enough, a google search of 'bajmcat' does not come up empty.

They didn’t do a bad job with that. There aren’t any consonant blends you can make with those consonants.

Did you leave them as is or rearrange them?

    J’bamcat. Pronounced ja-bam-cat.

I think you should name your next cat that.

I had to look that up, and I’m still trying to process it. 🙂

Peggy – you’ve no idea how helpful you’ve just been! In Language Mechanics, which I teach to 8th graders this year, the bulk of the first semester’s work is with conlangs – and I never knew the term until now! We’ll be looking at semaphore, Morse Code, Braille, AmSLan, Esperanto, and this year even a bit of Klingon. Final project for semester one: come up with your own language and teach it to the rest of us. Thank you for introducing me to the proper term for those who CONstruct their own LANGuages!!

Brad-did you look up the phrase above? I tried to link how it’s pronounced…but couldn’t do it.

      HIja’
      I did look it up.

Here’s a list of pronounciation sound files:

…AND the Klingon Language Institute web site noted above is a resource for my LangMech class as well. Can’t wait to see the spit flying when the boys try to pronounce the Klingon alphabet, much less insult one another’s mothers with that line…

      • Peggy

One man’s insult is another man’s compliment!
