Lately I have been spitting an awful lot while I’m teaching. The first time I noticed it, I spit on an eighth grade girl’s binder. She was very kind and surreptitiously wiped off the spit with some hand sanitizer. I knew what she was doing, but she didn’t know I knew. Michele told the girl I wanted to say something to her, so I did have a chance to thank her for her kindness.
Since then, I’ve spit several times with kids not noticing, and few times with them noticing. I’ve apologized when it was really obvious. I’ve been surprised at how generous they’ve been. But what the heck is going on? Why am I spitting so much? Perhaps I’ll look into getting sneeze-guards installed on the front row of desks.
That has happened to me at the beginning of every school year for the past 7 or 8 years. Never before.
I’m no help. Just empathy.
Yeah, I have trouble with too much spit accumulating in my mouth by the end of the day. It affects my speech and is quite embarrassing. Vast internet searches say it might be related to stomach issues, which is a comfort.
Maybe you subconsciously really don’t like kids. 😉
You’re right. You do have a big zit on your nose…
That zit is a whole other story!
Oh please share. I love a good story.
HA!! This CRACKED ME UP!! I LOVE the picture caption!
Maybe you could just add the following to the MS Religion school supply list for students. Bibles, pencils, loose leaf paper & ….

Any dental issues rearing their ugly head of late? Are the spaces between your teeth increasing with age? Do your ears hang low; do they wobble to and fro?
But seriously, the chip in one of my top front teeth (had it for over 18 years now; kinds used to it now) occasionally allows the escape of some saliva at inopportune moments. (What, then, would be an “opportune” moment for that to happen, I wonder?)
