Expensive Nap?

I’m going to try to do monthly massages now. I have the old sciatica problem of course, but I also have an awful pain between my shoulder blades where all my stress settles.

Yesterday evening was my next scheduled appointment. Anthony (my massage therapist’s name is Anthony) asked me what I wanted to work on this time. My sciatic pain was only very dull yesterday. I haven’t done anything to aggravate it recently. So I told him my shoulder blade pain just won’t go away. He said he’d work on it. I don’t like these appointments after school in the evening. 5pm to 6pm is one of my sleepiest times of day. I often sit down to eat when I get home and I end up falling asleep on top of my Zorba’s grilled cheese sandwich. So I’m pretty sure I was in and out of consciousness, which I hate because I think it’s a waste of money to pay someone to rub my back, then to fall asleep while it’s happening. I can nap for free. Why pay for it?

But the results make the money worth it.

While I was lying in a half conscious state, Anthony was suddenly pressing so hard on that sore spot between my shoulder blades that I almost cried out. It was outright painful. But I was sort of asleep, and he’s made my back feel good before, so I stayed quiet. I’m so glad I did. After the whole thing was over and I got off the massage table, I couldn’t believe it. The shoulder blade pain was gone! Gone! It won’t stay gone forever. Already this morning I feel a twinge. But what a wonderful brief relief. And I’ll feel it again next month.

He left his coffee mug in the room while I was changing. I thought it was funny, so I took a picture.

That pain hasn’t been gone in YEARS if I remember correctly, right? YEARS!

And that mug is crazy cool.

Congratulations! You have to do these things for yourself…

What are you, some kind of movie star now?

Reading your great experience makes me so crave to be pain free too! Anthony huh?

And I wonder if that mug used to look regular, but Anthony, with his massive hand strength…redesigned it???

Our internet is back! I was dying this morning and had to go back to sleep to soothe the sorrow.

An hour-long backrub sounds like bliss, and is worth any amount of money, but perhaps you can ask him if you can just pay him for the time you’re awake. 🙂

You made me think of my late father. Brad. When I was very young, he always took me along with him to his barber shop – spinning striped pole and all. The barber was an older bald gentleman from The Fatherland, so they sat and schwaffled</i “auf Deutsch” whenever Dad was there. Of course, only when he was awake. Indeed, the naps in the barber’s chair were probably the high point of Dad’s weeks. I read the magazines and comic books in the waiting chair area and Dad snored while the trimmer buzzed and the barber smiled. Good memories – and not wasted money; for the same fee Dad got a sound nap and a good haircut.

I have seen a mug like that before, but I’m not sure where. Very curious. Very curious, indeed.
