London: Day Five

Yesterday we got tickets to ride on the double-decker tour bus. It’s cool because there is a whole fleet of buses, and you can jump on and off as much as you want. There was a recorded narrator that you could listen to as you traveled. There was lots of interesting information.

London, as narrated by a man with a pleasant British accent.

We did get off the bus a couple of times. I wanted to check out a shop called scificollector. They claim to have the largest selection of Dr. Who merchandise. We had a really hard time finding it. Mostly because it is also a stamp-collector shop.

It's David Tennant!

The shop was a little disappointing. We got back on the bus and traveled a little farther. It was getting to be lunch time, so we stopped to look for a place to eat. We stumbled on an outdoor market. It was really crowded, but we found a place that made some nice curry.

I didn't enjoy the crowd because I was grumpy hungry.

Back on the bus again, and we got farther away from our hotel than we had ever been. We went over the London Bridge, then the nearby Tower Bridge. Did you know they aren’t the same thing? I didn’t. I tried to take a picture going over the tower bridge, but the bus roof spoiled it.

Mind your head.

We called it quits a little earlier than the day before. It’s been really hard to get up in the morning. Before we went back to the hotel, we stopped at the grocery store to get some dinner. We’ve had dinner from the grocery store for three of the nights we’ve been here. We can both eat for less than ten pounds. Awesome!

Roasted chicken, crusty bread, and strawberries. Mmm...

Cool holiday buddy. Looks like so much fun. So what shows are you guys gonna see?
For Doctor Who merchandise use the Upton Park tube stop.

Nice but take loads of cash.

We didn’t see any shows. Except for the performers in the Underground. My favorite was an accordion lady. Close second was a flute man who was playing what sounded like Bach.

    1. Oooo….grumpy hungry is the worst kind. You’re lucky you didn’t kill anyone.

    2. I can’t believe you didn’t get a picture of you standing behind that door/window by Doctor Who.

    3. I am fully in favor of grocery store dinners. Bread, meat and mustard/butter/some sort of bread topping – good to go. Do London hotels have coffeemakers or tea makers?

      1. I nearly killed Denis. I apologized later.

      2. The people in the store (including the workers) were all clearly stamp people, not Dr. Who people. I was a little embarrassed even to take the picture of the door.

      3. Bread and Nutella! Mmm…
The hotel room has a hot water pot, tea bags, and instant coffee.

What are the chances that you will read this and then see this today?

    • Brad

I actually saw that on Boing Boing this morning, but we were in the wrong part of town most of the day. Around 3pm, we were near Kensington Gardens, but we didn’t see any of the bikers by then. 🙁

I always forget about time zone differences.

If you went over Tower Bridge, I want to ask if you got to see THE Crown Jewels in the Tower…but, as I bet there is a fee to cue up there, probably not. It’s quite a striking collection…definitely not cubic zirconia…but your life will surely be complete without that experience as well. So long as you’re no longer grumpy-hungry…would hate to have only half a Denis (or worse!) return with you…
