Chrysanthemum Pacificum

Yesterday was particularly warm. It was a great day to get out and work in the garden. Of course I first had to check the garden centers for sale items. I found some Kopper King hardy hibiscus plants for half off. I got four more to add to my existing specimen.

In my backyard garden, the meatflower plants are in full bloom. Actually, they’re Chrysanthemum pacificum plants, sometimes called ‘Silver and Gold Chrysanthemum’ because of the silvery leaves and the golden flowers. I call them meatflowers because they attract so many flies. They don’t look or smell like meat; they have a sweet smell. But so few things are blooming in November, I think all the nectar-drinkers are glad to see them.

Beautiful and weird.

And since I was already in the garden and it was warm and sunny, I did the November walkthrough.

Plants can get mildew? That surprises me.

Do you rake the leaves when they fall or just let them become mulch?

You can’t cut down a cherry tree – you’re not George Washington.

Nice tour! Especially since at this time last year I’m sure everything was frozen or buried in snow.

Mildew on leaves is a rather common plant problem. I’ve never seen it in your garden, but I’m usually there in the hottest part of the summer.

I do not rake the leaves. There really aren’t that many of them. And I don’t like raking.
