Lunch with Family

My Aunt Linda and Uncle Paul are in town. They came to spend Mother’s Day with their kids and grandkid. Yesterday they all went out to eat and invited me along. We ate at a place in the Ellicot City area, which is southwest of town. It was fun eating there because it was a completely different part of town. I have all my regular places around where I live, and I don’t think there are too many restaurants I wouldn’t at least have heard of, but this place was completely off my track.

It was a fun lunch. Besides my family members, my cousin’s in-laws were there, and so was a married couple my Aunt Linda knew from when she worked here in Baltimore.

My cousin’s sister-in-law brought her 5-year-old son, and he had a Ring Pop. It’s a sucker that looks like a diamond ring. I remember my mom not wanting us to get those because after you lick the edges off the “diamond”, the ring looks like a pacifier. I think I did get one once though… Meh. I’d rather have Fun Dip.

My cousin and his wife gave both of their mothers a present for Mother’s Day. It was a special frame with a picture of their son. Aunt Linda got teary. 🙂

Here’s my first cousin, once removed, Rayner:
It's a naked-baby-on-a-bearskin-rug picture! Ha!

That is a cool frame and a cute baby. Home run for making Grandma cry!

I also think I only had a Ring Pop once. They were one of the pricier candies, if I remember correctly. My friends and I stuck to the cheap bottom row at the 7-11, where you could get several items for the big-ticket-item price.

I was all about the packaging: if the candy came in a cool container, I wanted it. One of my absolute favorites was Mr. Bones candy. It was a plastic coffin with candy bones inside. And the bones could be put together like a puzzle to form a skeleton. Awesome!

Oh, yes. That was Swimming Pool candy – along with the trash can filled with ‘trash’. Mmmmmmmmm…….memories……..
