Coats for Palm Sunday

Yesterday was Palm Sunday. I am part of a committee called “Service Arrangements”. I am to look for ways to enhance church services and to make them engage more of the senses. I found an idea on the internet to bring coats in on Palm Sunday, because on the original Palm Sunday, people laid their cloaks in the road. Another idea talked about bringing food in. The person who owned the donkey Jesus rode gave it to the disciples simply because they said “the Lord needs it”. We said that about the food and clothing we give out at our Compassion Center. “The Lord needs it.”

There was pretty good participation. I was afraid I hadn’t advertised it enough, but a lot of people brought food and coats. I piled only some of the food in the front. I didn’t want to trip people on the way to communion. And I would have loved to actually lay the coats on the floor, but again… the tripping. I didn’t see it until just this morning, but there are palms on the floor in front of the food. My pastor did that. Nice touch, Pastor.

I took this picture after church was over.

Ha! “A committee of one gets stuff done” – one of my favorite sayings. Well done, Service Arrangements committee! That was a very thoughtful addition to the service.

At our church the children paraded around the congregation while we sang. They waved their palm branches, except for Sophie, who was tickling the backs of the knees of the boy in front of her.

Clever, creative, and very appropriate, I think, for the day. Nicely done, Committee!

Nice job Brad!! Looks like ‘What’s Your Donkey?’ was a great idea indeed! Will all the offerings go to the Compassion Center?

And just wondering, when you have committee meetings do you ever call in sick?
