All the Songs

My school’s spring musical is happening this weekend. It’s “Fiddler on the Roof”. I went last night. I loved it! I wasn’t sleepy at all, even though it was WAY past my bedtime.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen “Fiddler on the Roof” before. I didn’t remember the story at all. But I did know the songs. All of them. Why is that? I remember singing “Sunrise, Sunset” for voice lessons in college, but why would I know the others? I knew them almost well enough to sing along. Is it from childhood? …Or did I once participate in a showing of this musical and now I’ve forgotten it? I’m completely puzzled.

The dance during 'To Life' was fun.

Ah, sure you’ve seen this – in the movies! (Zero Mostel, Topol, or somebody of that ilk was Tevye…remember now?) Even rural Nebraska surely had this at least eventually at the dollar theaters, right? You’re merely suffering from a lapsus memoriae . Comes with “maturity” – expect more over time…

They are doggone sing-able songs, too, no? I was swaying and singing along from the second row myself the other evening. Hope it wasn’t too disconcerting a vision for the actors but I needed to keep moving somewhat due to the “comfort” of those plastic rental seats…..ahem…

Surely Lloyd had been singing all those songs in your presence during high school or college – he is quite the connoisseur of musicals. Although, if with every song you imagined Barbara Streisand singing it – you’ve seen it. Wait…. was that Yentl?…..

Glad you enjoyed the play! I’ve never seen the movie either, but know most of the songs too…..my guess is because those songs became famous and must have been on the radio or used in other movies or TV shows…or I heard Lloyd singing all the way on the east coast.

      Ooo! Ooo! Two thoughts:

      1. Wasn’t Katie R excellent as the dead wife ghost in the school production?! Some of the students involved with the play had told me it would be a crack-up – they were obviously right!
      2. Charles Shaugnessy is back on the only soap I am still watching (“Like sands through the hourglass…”) – much more snow on the roof, but still easy on the eyes.

HA! Ok, you got at least one outloud guffaw from me on that one, Pegster. [That guy was a good Tevya, but he’s no Josh R. either.] Love anything Muppet-y…
