Trapping Air

This weather is perfect for the open-and-close-the-windows maneuver.

During the night, I open my windows, and cool air comes in. If I open a top floor window and a bottom floor window, the heavy cool air pushes all the hot air out the top window. Sometimes I can even see the curtains move. In the morning, my house is almost chilly. (Max has his choice of two blanket locations that he can burrow into for a warm night’s sleep.)

During the day, I close my windows, and the cool air is trapped. As it gets hot outside, my old brick and plaster house holds the cool air like a cave. Yesterday I went outside a couple of times, and when I came back in, the air almost felt like an air conditioner was running. It was awesome. The basement is the coolest. When the power went out from that storm in June, I should have slept down there. It didn’t occur to me.

This is the exhaust window upstairs.

    You a schmart cookie there…

Yea, science! Your story could’ve been a model for 7th graders last week as we dealt with atmospheric changes, temperature at different elevations, etc. I’ll file this away for next year – perhaps a guest speaker stint?

Oh, yes – this weather is the best. It’s actually been cool enough in Seward that we can leave the windows open a little during the day and it doesn’t heat back up. Hooray for fall!

    Hi, BRAD!
No one mentioned the nicest part about this weather. The total lack of A/C and Heating bills!!!!!!!! Long may this weather continue……….
