So a weekend isn’t a great time for a big announcement, but here goes:
I was offered and accepted a long-term teaching position at a Lutheran school. I’ll be teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th English/Lit and Social Studies. The time period is January to May. The school is in Maui, Hawaii!
I’m so excited! I will be able to work with kids again. I really like the people I’ve talked with from the school. I think it’s going to be great fun.
I don’t know all the details yet. I won’t be selling my house. Max will stay with Denis. I have some time to answer all those questions and get organized. For now, I’ll just be tying up loose ends with home projects. I’m also visiting the Maui Craigslist page a lot. I’ll need a place to live and some sort of transportation.
For whatever reason my eyes were drawn immediately to that Craigslist column entitled “personals”. I know you’ve gone to Hawaii before – I, Kalala, have the key fob to prove it! So I got to wondering: did you meet your “ipo”* when you were there before and are now hunting under “missed connections” for this “uhane hoa” (soul mate)?
At least we won’t have to wish you a Mele Kalikimaka since you don’t have to be there until after the holidays, right?
…and when is your going away party again?
* allegedly “sweetheart” in Hawaiian…would Google lie about this?
dang it, Carol! Now that song is going to be in my head!
Great news, Brad!
Congratulations! Praise God!
Hooooooooorraaaaaayyyyyyy!! I gotta say that you are living some sort of charmed life with this. “Oh yes, I was offered a position – in Hawaii.”
Very, very, very exciting, though I know you have a lot of unanswered questions ahead. I say rent a furnished ohana and just pack enough clothes for a week. Adventures galore!
Do you even need a house? Can’t you just find a giant palm leaf?
Congrats on your fabulous new location. It sounds like just enough time to really explore and enjoy.
HA! A giant palm leaf!
Or maybe you could build a hut like they did on Gilligan’s island….and didn’t they have a cool car too? You are great at building things!
So happy for you!!
Always.

(Btw: I hope your entertainment is better than this.)
Congratulations, Brad! Enjoy!
I’m so happy for you Brad!
Can’t wait to see all the glorious photos of the flora you encounter!
I say sleep on the beach!
Congrats, Brad! Very exciting! My sister lives on Oahu and knows lots of great places to visit. Let me know if you’d like her info!
