Ringing and Piping

Merry Christmas!

Last night I went to Christmas Eve services. It was GLORIOUS! The service was full of music. On Sunday morning I had let the music director know I could ring handbells. He needed an extra ringer, so I helped out last night. It was fun, but a little nerve-wracking.
I played A5 and B5.

I loved where I sat. It wasn’t about what was in front of me; I could see nothing but the Christmas tree. It was about what was behind me:
Pipes!

I LOVE sitting directly in front of an organ. The pipes blast and the music swirls around me. It is exhilarating! And it was a great way to spend Christmas Eve.

Indeed…this post brought fond memories of many Lutheran High Sundays to association churches where we student choir members sat in balconies right in front of organ pipes. Amazing. [I can still see Dick Heilman’s contorted mouth as he played the organ, too. (Do all organists do that; have you started yet in your lessons, Brad? You know, the big “O” with the lips and overall painful-looking muscular movements that bely how hard the feet we cannot see must be working?] Glad you got to ring instead of leading ringers this time – what a treat!

Blessed Christmas, all Royuks and other Bradaptationland readers!

Lauren here (on Lloyd’s phone) – Happy, happy Christmas! I am glad that you had such a great time!

    Merry Christmas to all!

What song did you ring? I like the idea of being in the balcony….that way you don’t have to feel the stares of anyone or worry about any faces you might be making.

Yay for all that Christmas music!

We rang an arrangement of “Still, Still, Still” and we rang a Christmas medley. The medley moved along pretty quickly, so it was the one I was more nervous about.
