Yesterday was a trip to Hana with Lloyd and Curt. We rented a convertible again. I think that should just always be a thing – driving to Hana? Rent a convertible.
We kind of rushed the drive because we wanted a lot of time to hike when we arrived. We pushed through quickly to Waianapanapa – the black sand beach. This time, we climbed on the rocks to the right of the beach. It was cool, because there was a section of rock that made breathing sounds as the waves went in and out. It sounded like a dragon breathing.
A seabird was hanging on to the rocks nearby.
Next, we headed to the Seven Sacred Pools area. There was a hiking trail there. People here often talk about a trail that goes through a bamboo forest and ends at a waterfall, but there are several trails like that. Is this the one they mean? It certainly was amazing.
Before the bamboo, we came to a big banyan tree. It’s not among the world’s largest banyans, but it certainly is photogenic.
This was my first time hiking through bamboo. It was weird and primeval. It felt like we had been shrunk and left in a lawn. The bamboo could have been giant blades of grass. Rocks could have been sand. It was cool!
The waterfall at the end was amazing. It was so tall! The water falling created a mighty wind.
We were able to walk right up to the pool it fell into, and even walk into the falling water. It wasn’t as cold as I expected it to be.
And I couldn’t resist doing a calendar picture. Maybe I could be Mr. June or something. Ha!
A.May.Zing.
Wonder if the bamboo forest was used in the filming of any of the Honey, I Shrunk the — movies? Sure does look like Curt was shrunken there alright.
Water falling everywhere – is it potable? Would one need to carry much water on a hike there so long as one had a canteen to refill? Just wondering…
Isn’t the Mainland going to be a teensy bit of a let down after all this? 🙁 I mean, if nothing else, where will you be able to complete the calendar shots?!
I agree with Carol – what are you guys going to do when you get back here?
The pictures are fantastic! The one of Curt looks like that tilt-shift photography where things are made to look miniature. It appeals to the Tiny Things part of me. Tiny Boys that wander in the grass….. surely that wouldn’t end well.
I am out of adjectives. The bamboo was really tall! I need to tell the bamboo growing in my neighborhood that they are under achieving.
Hahaha! That picture of Curt is hilarious! I’m sure glad an Hawaiian centipede wasn’t in that bamboo. One gulp & you’d be gone.
Btw: Does water cascading on your face from 400 feet sting a little?
I have NO WORDS for your latest post(s)…..That’s unusual….”No Words for Bev” There is a first for everything!!! Really everyone else has used all the possible words to describe you and your friends latest escapades!!! Thoroughly Enjoyable to View & Read!!! <3 Aunt Bev 🙂
