New Jar

I opened a new jar of peanut butter for lunch yesterday. Mmm… it was so good. I think I have already gone on the record as saying that peanut butter changes flavor once you open the jar. After a short while, I think it becomes inedibly stale. But yesterday was a fresh jar – a delicious, peanutty first scoop.

I also must go on the record as saying my favorite brand. It’s Jif. I haven’t tried all the other brands, but I have tried the big ones. I think Jif is tastiest. I’m not sure if I can say how, because I didn’t actually do a side-by-side comparison. I just switched from one brand to the next when the current jar ran out. Maybe Jif is saltier? Sweeter? Whatever the case, I like it best. If you’re going to buy me a jar of peanut butter as a present, get Jif.

    Mmmmm….. looks yummy…..

When I was a teenager I read a book about a girl who had a rough life – she grew up poor and her mother was horrible. One of the scenes I remember vividly is when she had her little sister climb up on the counter to get the jar of peanut butter out of the cupboard, then she stirred it and stirred it to get the oil back into the peanut butter. I had no idea what she was talking about. Thank you, Jif and Skippy, for keeping me ignorant.

Have you tried soaking your peanut butter in warm water mixed with tea bags I find that that reduces the staleness of peanut butter and I would know because I eat shit load of peanut butter

Interesting idea… So how does that work? You put the jar in water? I can’t imagine you’d put peanut butter in water. Wouldn’t it make soup? What I do to combat staleness is buy smaller jars and eat their contents in less than two weeks.
